i dont know how to but even if i did………
i wouldnt tell you
i dont think they find that very fun
if they are 13 and under….dey’ll probably end up covering you in hot wax
if they are over 13……….
they will stay out of the house as much as possible so as to avoid you
you can always force them thoe

Well when we were kids we used ice and paraffin wax and crayons were melted in to get the color.
use one liter cartons like milk comes in, melt your paraffin wax in a pot you DO NOT care about, it is best to do this over a double boiler and not a direct flame. Once the wax is melted you can add your color to the wax, ( I am sure there are probably kits for this in hobby stores these days ) if not use a couple of crayons to color the white wax. Pour the melted wax into the cartons that have been filled with your wick and ice. Break the ice up so it’s not large chunks. When the candle hardens the ice will have melted and created pockets of air in the candle and this also makes for a nice effect once you light them. Let them harden and peel the cardboard from the carton away and there is one form of candle you can make.

We used to do this when I was a kid, and I really liked doing it.
Get some old cans, at least 8″ tall. The large cans of soup that are about 8″ tall and 3″ wide work well.
Cover a griddle with a few layers of aluminum foil and put your wax in the can to melt.
You will also need a can of the same size to put some tap water in. It doesn’t need to be ice cold, just room temperature.
Using a cotton string for a wick, dip the string into the melted wax, let the excess drip off, then place the string into the water. This will cool and harden the wax. Go back and forth between the wax and the water. It will slowly build up layers and produce a tapered candle.

In the craft section of a lot of retail stores you can find the cotton wicks and paraffin. Bees wax is better candle making material but harder to find.

I’d recommend starting out small by acquiring a dowel and tie the wicks to it with a small weight similar to a fishing split shot to begin the candle making. Heat the wax in a container the length of the candle you wish to make and begin repeatedly dipping the wicks then remove them and allow to air harden and repeat the process.

I found dipping in water to cool the wax causes the candle to “Pop” later on when burning because water was absorbed and is now boiling as the candle burns.

Go to the toy store….they sell candle making kits for kids and everything you need plus the instructions on how to make them are included.

Whichever method you try, please be aware that there are different sizes and types of candle wicks. Using an improper size may result in a fire.

That said, how about buying sheets of beeswax? They come in different colors and all you have to do is heat them a bit with a blow dryer and roll them around a wick. You can make pillar candles, flat candles, square ones and tapered candles. The wax can be cut with scissors and since it’s a little tacky, shapes that are cut out with scissors or cookie cutters may easily be adhered to the candle.

Beeswax has a higher flashpoint than most other waxes, and candles made from beeswax not only burn longer but give off a wonderful, subtle honey scent.

You can also buy beeswax pellets in both natural and colored form. You just put the wick into a glass or metal jar and pour the pellets around it. Kids have fun mixing colors like this. Pellets also come in paraffin.

It’s a bit cheaper to buy this on line, but I have a feeling you want the stuff quickly. Hobby Lobby and Michael’s craft stores will have what you need, but you may be able to find the stuff at Walmart. I’ve found Walmart craft supplies -like Sculpey – to be the cheapest around.

Good luck! I’ve been making candles for almost 30 years. If you’d like more info, please e-mail me.
